Facade Mat à teinter

SPS Facade Mat is a 100% acrylic matt wall paint designed for facades exposed to the Belgian climate, as well as for interior walls, including damp rooms. It delivers a durable, uniform, ultra-matt finish with good resistance to weather and abrasion. It is available in a tintable version, in 1 L, 4 L and 10 L tins.

Technical characteristics

  • Type: 100% acrylic, water-based paint for interior and exterior use.
  • Finish: matt, with a gloss level of 2% at 85°, i.e. an extra-matt finish.
  • Abrasion resistance: class 1 according to the DIN EN 13300 standard.
  • Theoretical coverage: approximately 9 m² per litre per coat. Actual coverage depends on the substrate and the application method.
  • Drying at 20 °C / 50% RH: touch-dry after 2 hours, recoatable after 4 to 6 hours.
  • Volume solids: 42%, with a density of 1.44 g/cm³.
  • Recommended film thickness: approximately 111 µm wet, i.e. approximately 46 µm dry.
  • Behaviour: water-vapour permeable, with good flow for a smooth result.

Application tips

A good finish depends first and foremost on the substrate. It must be clean, sound, dry and cohesive. Remove any crumbling areas, moss, algae and old paint that no longer adheres, then repair cracks and defects before painting. On concrete, stone and masonry, check the condition of the substrate before painting. For specific cases (highly absorbent substrate, existing paint system), the manufacturer advises contacting them.

Stir the product thoroughly before use. For a tintable version, use the same colour reference and the same batch for a single facade to avoid differences in shade. Apply in even coats without overloading, respecting the recommended film thickness. Observe the recoating time of 4 to 6 hours between coats, under conditions of 20 °C and 50% relative humidity.

Choose a brush or roller suited to the texture of the substrate. On a facade, work in complete sections, keeping a wet edge to avoid visible lap marks. Avoid days with forecast rain or full sun, which disrupt drying and the final appearance.

Pro tips

On a facade, the classic pitfall is painting a wall in several stages, with stops in the middle of a section. With an extra-matt paint like Facade Mat, touch-up marks show up in raking light. Always stop your work at a corner, a downpipe or an expansion joint, and prepare enough paint to finish a complete section. For a tinted colour, mix all the tins you need in a single large container (the "boxing" technique).

Calculate your quantities using the theoretical coverage of 9 m²/L, but keep a margin. A rough or highly absorbent substrate uses more paint, and a spare 1 L tin is handy for touch-ups. For a good-sized facade, the 10 L size is more practical and limits shade differences between tins.

FAQ
