For exterior use, natural stone or sensitive surfaces, go for a neutral silicone, which won't damage materials and reduces the risk of staining. For a shower or worktop, choose an anti-mould sanitary silicone, in white or in a shade that matches your tile grout or joinery. A matt finish or a colour close to the surface makes the joint far less noticeable. For a clean result, smooth the fresh bead with a dedicated smoothing agent rather than soapy water, so as not to compromise adhesion along the edges of the joint.
