Exterior Paints
This category covers exterior paints and protective systems for two main types of surface. On the one hand, masonry facades (brick, render, concrete, previously painted surfaces) with their undercoats and finishes. On the other, exterior woodwork (cladding, window frames, doors, shutters) with wood stains and paints, including products made specifically for windows. These are complemented by bonding and stain-blocking primers for difficult or stained surfaces. Start by identifying your surface. On a facade, an opaque undercoat evens out the absorption of porous brick or render and seals in light soiling. It can often be tinted to match the finish colour, making coverage easier. On wood, choose a protective product designed for the purpose, taking into account weather exposure and the look you want, transparent or opaque. If you are dealing with damp, soot or tannin stains, or a smooth surface with poor adhesion, apply a stain-blocking or bonding primer before the finish. In all cases, work on a dry, sound surface and check the weather forecast: drying times depend heavily on temperature and air humidity.
