PRIMER BP
Raw wood exposed to the elements requires impeccable preparation before any painting: this is exactly the role of SPS's Primer BP. This matt primer, with very high filling power, prepares untreated wood surfaces for exterior use and ensures a stable base for the finishing coats applied afterwards.

Application tips
Before application, the wood surface must be clean, dry and free of dust, grease or sanding residue. Lightly sanding the raw wood improves the product's adhesion and evens out absorption, especially on more fibrous or knotty wood types.
Apply Primer BP with a brush or roller, in an even coat, paying particular attention to board ends, knots and cut areas, which absorb more. Allow to dry completely before applying the finishing coat, respecting the recommended weather conditions for outdoor work (moderate temperature and humidity).

Pro tips
On site, the most common mistake is applying a finishing coat directly onto raw wood without a suitable primer: exterior wood, subject to cycles of moisture and drying, eventually causes the paint to blister or flake prematurely. Primer BP acts as a regulator here, stabilising the surface's absorption before painting.
Remember to fill in knots and cracks in the wood before applying the primer rather than after: this prevents resin or tannin bleed-through, which can mark the matt finish, even with a high-filling-power product like this one.
