Varnish

This category brings together varnishes for interior wood: parquet, floorboards, stairs and furniture. It includes clear water-based primer varnishes, designed to preserve the natural look of the wood without darkening or yellowing it. Some are formulated to block the substances naturally present in species such as oak or beech. This prevents discolouration and stops knots from showing through the varnish. They suit parquet fitters and joiners as well as homeowners renovating a floor or staircase in a Belgian home. To choose the right product, start with the look you want. A “natural” primer keeps the raw tone of freshly sanded oak, while a standard primer brings out the colour of the wood more. Then pair it with a finish suited to the wear it will face: a staircase or a living-area floor needs tougher protection than a piece of furniture. Make sure the primer and finish belong to the same system, and always test on an offcut or an inconspicuous area. Finally, follow the dilution, drying times and sanding between coats specified on the technical data sheet.
