Smoothing fillers
Smoothing fillers prepare interior walls and ceilings before painting or applying a wallcovering. They correct minor irregularities, close the surface texture and leave a flat, even finish. They can be applied to plasterboard, plaster, concrete, aerated concrete, calcium silicate blocks or glass fibre wallcovering, and often to well-adhering old paintwork too. Here you will find ready-to-use paste products for application with a spatula or filling knife, as well as fillers formulated for airless spraying, popular with plasterers and painters handling large surfaces on site. To make the right choice, start with your application method and the pace of the job. A homeowner refreshing a room will opt for a creamy hand-applied filler that is easy to spread and sand. On a renovation or new-build project, the airless version saves a considerable amount of time on ceilings and large walls. 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 formulas combine filling, smoothing and sometimes board jointing, reducing the number of products to manage. Also consider the drying time: a fast version lets you apply successive coats within the same day, while a slow version gives you more time to work large areas without visible joins. Finally, low-dust fillers are a real advantage in occupied spaces, for example when renovating a lived-in home.
