Levelling fillers

Levelling fillers are used to prepare interior walls and ceilings before painting or wallpapering: they fill minor defects, even out patched areas and create a uniform base that is ready for sanding. They can be applied to plasterboard, plastered walls, concrete, calcium silicate blocks, aerated concrete or glass fibre wallcovering. This category includes ready-to-use pastes for knife or finishing trowel application, airless fillers for spraying large surfaces, and powder fillers that you mix yourself to get exactly the consistency you need. Whether you are a plasterer, a painter or a homeowner renovating a Belgian house with tired walls, this is the step that determines the quality of the finish. To make the right choice, start from the condition of the substrate and the way you work. On a damaged or uneven wall, a filling product or a 2-in-1 filling and skimming filler reduces the number of coats, while a fine skimming filler is ideal for the final coat before painting. 3-in-1 versions also handle plasterboard joints, which is handy when you want to keep things moving on the same job. When it comes to drying, a fast formula lets you sand and paint the same day, while a slow formula gives you more time to work large surfaces without visible joins. Beyond a few rooms, airless application saves valuable time, provided you have the right machine.
