ZINSSER® PERMAWHITE MATT

ZINSSER® PERMAWHITE MATT is a water-borne acrylic paint specially designed for interior spaces subject to moisture. The dry film offers effective protection against mould degradation, making it the ideal solution for bathrooms, kitchens, laundries and other damp areas. With its high coverage and velvet matte finish, it combines aesthetics and durability whilst remaining easy to apply.

Technical characteristics

  • Velvet matte finish with gloss level at 60° of 5-8%
  • Wet friction resistance Class 1 according to EN 13300, below 5 µm at 200 rubs
  • Quick drying: touch dry in 30 minutes, recoatable after 2 hours
  • Theoretical coverage of 7 to 10 m² per litre
  • Density of 1.38 g/cm³ with dry matter content of 41%
  • Recommended dry film thickness of 40 to 60 µm
  • Complete film hardening in 7 to 10 days
  • Low odour and water-based formulation

Application advice

Apply ZINSSER® PERMAWHITE MATT in two coats to achieve optimal protection against mould. The recommended wet film thickness is between 100 and 150 µm. Work at temperature conditions of 20°C with 50% relative humidity to comply with the stated drying times. The paint adheres directly to shiny and smooth surfaces without requiring a prior undercoat thanks to its combined primer and finish action in a single product.

For areas highly exposed to moisture such as bathrooms, ensure adequate ventilation. Although resistant to ambient humidity, this paint is not designed for areas in prolonged contact with water. Tool cleaning is simply performed with water during application. Allow 2 hours between coats for optimal results.

Pro tips

For renovation projects where moisture is a recurring problem, PERMAWHITE MATT offers a lasting solution that prevents repeat complaints. Ensure careful surface preparation: remove all traces of existing mould with household ammonia solution diluted equally with water before application. This paint features wet scrub resistance of Class 1, making it a professional choice for high-traffic areas in humid environments.

Respect the full cure time of 7 to 10 days: even if the surface feels dry after a few hours, it is during this period that the paint develops its optimal anti-mould properties and final mechanical resistance. Inform your clients of this timeframe to avoid premature stress on freshly painted surfaces.

FAQ

Can I use PERMAWHITE MATT in a shower?

No, this paint is not designed for areas in prolonged contact with water. It works perfectly for bathroom walls and ceilings exposed to ambient humidity, but not for the interior of shower enclosures or directly splashed surfaces.

How long should I wait between two coats?

The paint is recoatable after 2 hours at 20°C and 50% relative humidity. Ensure the first coat is completely dry to the touch before applying the second. Temperature and humidity conditions may affect this timeframe.

How much paint should I plan for my bathroom?

Theoretical coverage is 7 to 10 m² per litre per coat. For a complete two-coat application, allow approximately 3.5 to 5 m² per litre in total. Actual coverage will depend on the porosity of your surface and your application technique.

Do I need a primer before applying PERMAWHITE MATT?

On sound, clean, already-painted surfaces, two coats of PERMAWHITE MATT are generally sufficient. On new, porous surfaces or surfaces showing traces of old mould, appropriate preparation and possibly a suitable primer are recommended. Consult the manufacturer's technical data sheet for specific substrates.

Does the paint retain its anti-mould effectiveness over time?

Yes, PERMAWHITE MATT's formulation incorporates durable anti-mould protection that remains active after the full 7 to 10-day cure. This protection preserves the clean appearance of surfaces in constantly humid environments or those subject to temperature fluctuations.
