Whether you're painting a skirting board, hanging wallpaper at head height, tidying a cupboard or reaching a high shelf, the Hailo D60 2x3 steps offers a stable climb on both sides. Its double access allows you to climb up from either side, and it folds down to store in a compact space. It is designed by Hailo in Germany.
Before each use, set up the step stool on a flat, clean and dry floor. Unfold it completely, as indicated in the instructions, and check that all four feet are firmly on the ground. Avoid placing it on a smooth protective sheet, a wet floor or fresh paint residue.
Face the steps and keep your body weight centred. The double access lets you choose the side of ascent closest to the work area, so you don't have to keep moving the step stool. Move it rather than leaning too far to the side.
After use, clean the steps and end caps of any splashes of paint, filler or glue, which reduce grip. Fold it up for storage: it takes up little space in a van or a cupboard.

The classic site mistake: a step stool placed on a plastic sheet or slippery protective paper, even though non-slip end caps are only effective on a surface that grips. On a protected floor, opt for a fleece or non-slip textile dust sheet, or cut the protection out at the position of the feet so that the end caps touch the actual floor.
Also keep your tools off the steps: a paint pot, glue tray or roller there compromises your footing. A bucket hook or a suitable holder avoids having to put them on the step and leaves you a free hand to hold on.
