Abranet® 81 x 133 mm coupe abrasive auto-agrippante maille micro-perforée

The Abranet® 81 x 133 mm by Mirka revolutionises professional sanding with its self-adhesive micro-perforated mesh structure. As the first multi-purpose backing material in the Net range, this abrasive offers dust-free sanding that transforms your working environment whilst significantly improving finishing quality. Ideal for dry sanding filler, primers, lacquer, composites and numerous industrial materials, it combines high performance with extended service life, making it a particularly cost-effective choice for demanding professionals.

Technical specifications

  • Micro-perforated mesh structure enabling true dust-free sanding
  • Self-adhesive fastening for quick tool-free changes
  • Rectangular format 81 x 133 mm suitable for manual and machine sanding blocks
  • Service life exceeding traditional abrasives thanks to mesh design
  • Compatible with dry sanding, mechanical or manual application
  • Suitable for filler, primers, lacquer, composites, wood, plastics and metals
  • Reduced surface clogging during sanding
  • Available in grit sizes 80, 150, 180 and 240 for all finishing types

Application advice

For optimal results, attach the Abranet® to a sanding block equipped with a dust extraction system. The mesh structure performs at its best only when coupled with a suitable vacuum system. Apply regular, moderate pressure: the abrasive's design does the work, no need to force.

Choose your grit size according to the task: grit 80 for roughing hard materials, grit 150 or 180 for intermediate preparation, grit 240 for finishing before painting. Follow a logical grit progression to avoid visible scratches.

Check your abrasive regularly during work. Thanks to its increased durability, Abranet® maintains its cutting power longer than conventional sanding papers, but a worn abrasive will only polish without sanding effectively. Replace it as soon as you notice a drop in performance.

Pro tips

At Pygmalion, our professional painters rely on Abranet® for preparing varnished woodwork and lacquered surfaces: the micro-perforated mesh prevents clogging even on fatty polyester fillers, where standard abrasive paper would saturate within a few passes. Be sure to empty your vacuum cleaner bag regularly, as the extraction efficiency is such that you will recover far more dust than with traditional abrasives.

Field tip: store your Abranet® sheets in their original packaging away from moisture. The polyamide backing remains stable in our Belgian conditions, but dry storage further extends the lifespan of the grain. For renovation projects where finish quality is paramount, start with P150 on primers and finish with P240: you will achieve a flawless surface finish without risk of visible scratches under the topcoat.

FAQ

Is the Abranet® 81 x 133 mm compatible with my current sander?

This abrasive sheet fits all rectangular orbital sanders fitted with a velcro pad of 81 x 133 mm, particularly Mirka OS pneumatic and DEOS electric models. Simply check that your sander has a dust extraction system to fully enjoy the benefits of dust-free sanding.

Which grit should I choose for sanding primer before painting?

For primers and fillers, P150 grit offers a good balance between material removal and smoothness. If you are looking for an even smoother finish before applying lacquer, opt for P180 or P240. P80 is reserved for rapid removal of filler and heavy material stock.

How long does an Abranet® sheet last compared to standard abrasive paper?

Thanks to its polyamide mesh backing and aluminium oxide grain, Abranet® offers significantly longer service life than traditional abrasive papers. The micro-perforated structure prevents dust clogging, maintaining cutting power longer and improving overall cost-effectiveness despite the higher unit cost.

Can I use Abranet® on bare wood?

Yes, Abranet® is perfectly suited for sanding bare wood, fillers, primers, lacquers, composites and many industrial materials. For very hard woods such as oak or beech, Mirka also offers the Abranet Ace version with ceramic grain, even more aggressive.

Is dust extraction really essential with this product?

Dust extraction is highly recommended to fully exploit the dust-free properties of the micro-perforated mesh. Without extraction, dust would accumulate on the surface and reduce sanding efficiency. With an appropriate extraction system, you achieve a clean work environment and significantly improved finishes.
